Joseph Maciel of South Gate, California, died July 7 of wounds received during what is believed to be an insider attack. US Army Col. Rob Manning, director of defense printing operations, informed reporters July 9, noting the incident is under investigation. US Army Cpl. Joseph Maciel of South Gate, California, died July 7 of wounds while on deployment in Afghanistan. Maciel was posthumously promoted to corporal. He had been on deployment in Afghanistan since February. Two other US service members were wounded during the wade and are in stable condition, Manning added. Maciel was an infantryman prescribed to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, known as the “Black Lions”, based at Fort Benning, Georgia. Task Force 1-28 Infantry is deployed in support of the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade. The 1st Battalion was zingy on 16 December 2015 at Fort Benning, Georgia, as Task Force 1-28.
